An Accident Lawyer in Orange Park Discusses How Long It Takes to Settle a Claim

The amount of time it takes to settle a personal injury claim varies depending on a number of factors. The length of time from the first letter of demand to the final check arriving in the mail can take from several weeks to several months, if not longer depending on the length of the case, whether appeals are involved, etc. An experienced accident lawyer in Orange Park can discuss with you the amount of time to expect before a final settlement is reached.

An Accident Lawyer in Orange Park Can Explain Personal Injury Settlement Response Time

In a relatively clear-cut case, where injuries are minimal and liability is quickly established, settlements can be achieved usually within a month or two. However, not all personal injuries cases are so black and white. There are many factors involved, which directly affect the insurance company’s response time and the final offer from the adjuster. An experienced accident lawyer in Orange Park can go over these factors with you, and discuss how they apply to your specific case. The following are some examples:
  • How well-documented your claim is—police accident reports, medical billing records, etc.
  • How well liability for the defendant has been established, and if there is any comparative negligence on your part
  • How busy the insurance company is—the adjuster handling your claim, supervisors on the file, etc.
  • The time of year you are submitting your claim—some months are better than others for settlements
  • Your attorney’s involvement with the case—a qualified accident lawyer in Orange Park can work closely with the insurance company and make sure that your claim is being processed in a timely manner.
